Washington brewers clean up at the NABA Awards

The results have been released for the 2010 North American Brewers Association (NABA) awards. Washington breweries took home a total of 22 medals, including 9 gold medals.

The gold medal winners included Flyers Brewery (Oak Harbor), Rock Bottom Bellevue, RAM Brewery Tacoma, RAM Brewery Seattle, Walking Man Brewing (Stevenson), Old Schoolhouse Brewery (Winthrop), Laht Neppur Brewing (Waitsburg), Silver City Brewery (Silverdale), and Fish Brewing (Olympia).

Washington's showing included a clean sweep of the Scotch Ale category. Laht Neppur won the gold, Walking Man the silver, and Black Raven the bronze.

The North American Beer Awards, held in conjunction with the Mountain Brewers Beer Fest, is a unique event sanctioned by the North American Brewers Association (NABA). Over 1,000 beers compete in 27 different categories. The competition provides an opportunity for commercially produced beers to be judged against the best beers in the country. The event is conducted as a single blind sampling followed by rank ordering of the entries within each category.
